Robert M. Gagné (1916–2002) was a cognitive psychologist and Professor of Educational Research at Florida State University who also directed research for the U.S. Air Force Personnel and Training Research Center. His 1965 textbook 'The Conditions of Learning' introduced the nine events framework and established the cognitive-behavioral foundations of systematic instruction. 'Principles of Instructional Design,' co-authored with Leslie Briggs in 1974, became a canonical graduate-level text taught in instructional design programs worldwide for over five decades.
